Today, let’s look at another subtle-but-powerful signal:

You used to care about the raise. The bonus. The promotion.

Now?

The idea of more money doing the same kind of work just makes you feel tired.

You find yourself thinking:
"I’d take a pay cut for work that actually matters."

Here’s the thing, whether or not you can take a pay cut isn’t the main point right now.
The feeling is the point.

That shift in what motivates you?
That’s usually a sign that your values have evolved, but your career hasn’t caught up.

I’ve been there.

I once accepted a role with a 9% raise, even though I had major reservations.
We had a baby on the way, and the money felt like the right decision.

But within two months, that 9% meant nothing compared to the frustration, hollowness, and loneliness I felt.
I would’ve happily traded the money back for more purpose, and more time with my family.

Here are two things to reflect on today:

1. What does “work that matters” mean to me?
For some, it’s freedom. For others, it’s impact. For others still, it’s peace.
You don’t need the full answer today. But starting the question is a powerful move.

2. What’s driving your current work decisions, values or fear?
This one can sting. But asking it is how you start making better decisions going forward.

You don’t need to blow up your life, just start getting clear on what actually matters to you now.
