Reflections & Learnings

This week is a little different to normal

I am going to focus on peeling back the curtain so to speak and update you on what I have been working on and what is upcoming.

I will also share my successes, frustrations and lessons learnt over the past few months.

I am a big believer that we can learn something from everyone.

So my hope is that what I share helps either inspire you or helps you relate to something you are going through, and you can learn from my wins and missteps.

This is very unlikely to be my most concise newsletter ever.

But I think there is a time and place for just spilling stuff out there even if it isn't concise and perfect.

That's definitely true in life.

What I have been working on

The 4 step Goal Getter Challenge has been the biggest area I have been busy on for the past few weeks. (Click to join the waitlist)

Creation wise the information is about 90% complete and the next step is making it 100% and then recording the videos for the challenge.

Unfortunately for me I needed some work done to freeze potential skin cancer issues so I have had to delay the filming by a week or so.

My face often blisters after this treatment and I know that it makes me uncomfortable and a little self conscious.

Add in the extra uncomfortableness of recording myself and I have accepted that the self conscious side will win this battle.

But once I am healed I know I will win this war!

Creation and talking to people and organizations about it has been incredibly fun.

Posting to social media about it has been less fun.

Lesson I learnt in this case was that I am much more comfortable talking to others where I can have a proper conversation about it.

Than just posting into the noise of LinkedIn.

Targeted release date is October 23rd

I share the date with you as a way of holding myself accountable.

What kind of a goal would it be if I didn't have a timeline on it!!

Maximising Limited Time

We all only have 24 hours in a day

Generally I am left with 1.5 to 2 hours a day that I would class as 'Dan time'. Which really isn't a lot!

About 6 weeks ago I shifted to only focussing on working on 1 or 2 things at a time. As opposed to 5 or 6 like I had been doing.

I will share way more on this next week as it has worked far better than I expected.

High level lesson learnt was that it is good to try new ideas out, even if you have major resistance to them in the first place.

Other lesson learnt is to listen to my body more.

To do lists are important. Goals are essential (of course I think that) and planning your time is a major support for that.

But if your body is telling you it needs rest then you have to listen.

After my skin treatment last week I had a banging headache.

In the past I would fight through it and then be really unwell for 2 or 3 days.

This time I rested the day it happened and was much better for it the next day.

Sometimes you have to take a step back and accept it. Instead of pushing through and taking further steps back.

Confidence Does Increase With Practice

I have met with people from a prominent charity in my local area as well as a group that does a lot of awesome support in my area.

Both have expressed real interest in what I am doing and potentially us working together.

I have reached out to approx 50 parenting blogs, community events etc about potentially working together.

I have heard back from about 3.

12 months ago that would have totally derailed me.

As an introvert putting myself out there knowing there is a high risk of rejection would have put me off completely.

The first no, or no response would have been the excuse I was looking for to say that this is too hard and nobody cares.

Whilst rejection and no response sucks. I see it as part of the journey.

The uncomfortableness of reaching out gets less uncomfortable each time.

The passion and conviction I have that I can help far outweighs those concerns (they are not fears anymore).

Lesson learnt is that when you have such passion and determination you will keep going no matter the adversity or problems.

Motivation comes and goes but purpose is so ingrained and powerful that it will not be stopped.

Goals For The Rest Of 2024

1. Succesfully launch the Goal Getter Challenge on October 23rd.

Successfully will mean of a high quality and any tweaks made based on feedback.

2. Consistently send this newsletter weekly and seek feedback from this community.

3. Continue being laser focussed on my vision for the support and expertise I offer.

Do this by only working on aspects and programs that add value and fit the long term view.

Only tweak that view based on feedback, internal and / or external events that will improve what I do.

Having written that I don't think I have fully shared that vision. I will do that in the coming weeks!

Let's Wrap This Up

I won't make this a regular habit but I would love to know your thoughts.

Let me know if this was helpful for you or if it was just rambled nonsense that was hard to read!

Cheering you on,

HEY, I’M DAN…

I know how exhausting and overwhelming it can be to work full time in a job that doesn't fulfill you. Then to arrive home sad and mentally exhausted.

Your kids really excited because daddy is home! and they want to tell you all about their day and play with you.

But you are so beaten down that you just can't give them the same excitement, or your full attention. Your mind is full of doubts and fears.

As hard as it may feel right now, there is a path from where you are today to becoming the dad who arrives home feeling fulfilled instead of frustrated.

I know because I have been where you are, and I can show you the way.

As a dad, husband, full time employee and a certified coach, I have helped dads just like you to identify careers that allow them to wake up excited to make a difference, to arrive home ready for toys and tantrums, and to go to your kids sports games fully present and enjoying it.
